Oak is a popular choice in cabinetry due to the durability of its moisture resistant wood. Characterized by open graining, red oak has a natural range of colour from light to dark and mineral deposits within the grain increases its natural beauty.

Maple is a hard, tightly grained wood that can have colour variations from a pale white to a reddish tone. The finish that is chosen for maple can enhance it’s natural beauty, or subtly reduce the variations through the use of darker stains.

Cherry has a subtle grain, enhanced with pitting which lends itself to the warmth of historical settings. The appearence of cherry can vary dramatically with the stain colour applied to it. Cherry is the ideal choice if a consistent dark colouration is required or in its natural state the reddish colour can be intensified.

Alder has a fairly straight uniformed grain with a natural colour which ranges from light to reddish brown and may even have peach hues. Common characteristics of open and split knots of varying size and shape as well as mineral stains.

AyA offers two categories of exotic woods: natural and engineered. Natural species are Bamboo and Block Mottled Makore. The engineered alternatives are wenge and zebrano, both which are FSC compliant as sustainable woods and have the additional benefit of exceptional grain consistency.

Painted finishes are solid, opaque colour applications which do not reveal any grain characteristics. The natural expansion and contraction of wood doors with painted finishes can have the effect of emphasizing the joinery.
