AyA Kitchens and Baths had the pleasure of working with Karen Kirk, Home and Decor Editor for Canadian Living on a special project that is close to Karen’s heart, “The Room that Hope Built.” Karen’s niece, Rebecca Borg, passed away from acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) in 2002. Part of Rebecca’s legacy was the vision of the transformation of the once very sterile, cold patient’s lounge at Princess Margaret Hospital into a room that patients could hang out with friends and family – chatting, watching a movie or admiring the spectacular view of downtown Toronto. Research shows that a comfortable environment, along with the support of friends and family, actually plays a vital role in wellness and recovery.
